Our History
1904
The City of Conroe was established in 1904, creating the historic downtown district that remains the center of community life today. Over the decades, Downtown Conroe evolved from a lumber and railroad town into a thriving destination for business, dining, entertainment, arts, and community events.
2001
The Conroe Downtown Area Association was incorporated as a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting Downtown Conroe.
Among the organization's original founding members was local businessman Rodney Pool, who helped spearhead the association's early efforts to strengthen and revitalize the downtown district. At the time, a significant portion of Downtown Conroe remained a dry area, limiting opportunities for restaurants, entertainment venues, and economic growth. Through advocacy, community engagement, and collaboration with local stakeholders, the association helped support efforts that ultimately led to changes in local alcohol regulations, opening new opportunities for business development and investment in Downtown Conroe.
These early accomplishments helped establish a foundation for the vibrant and growing downtown district enjoyed by residents and visitors today.
2026
The organization adopted the name Downtown Conroe Association (DCA) to better reflect its mission, identity, and continued focus on supporting Historic Downtown Conroe. While the name evolved, the organization's commitment to promoting local businesses, encouraging tourism, fostering community engagement, and enhancing Downtown Conroe remains unchanged.
